AMARTE

Apr 1 - 30

Welcome to where the sea, love and art meet. The AMARTE exhibition showcases Sara Berenguer's photography work. The exhibition follows the history of Joaquim Marques, the artist's great-grandfather, and together they tell a tale with a trip planned to the past with a pit stop at the present. Here we will also find various pieces that pay homage to Portuguese music and afro-fado.
The AMARTE exhibition has pieces from various projects performed by the artist. The pieces from the project Growing Old is Not a Burden focus on paying homage to her great-grandfather, who taught her the valuable lesson that even though in life we suffer constant changes, old age is never a reason to stop and succumb to society's concept of what being elderly is like. This exhibition is also inspired by traditional Portuguese music and Afro-Fado, a new genre which has recently emerged and made a mark in Portuguese culture. Here you will find, preserved in time, the names of contemporary Portuguese artists who have made an outstanding impact on the Portuguese music scene. The artist pairs these names with one of the most esteemed aspects of Portuguese life and culture, the sea.
